Satyajit Mohanty belongs to 1988 batch of Indian Police Service. He started his career as ASP, Jeypore in 1990, served in the capacity of Addl.SP, Puri and SP in Koraput, Rourkela, Cuttack & Balasore. He also served as SP, Vigilance and Addl. Transport Commissioner, Orissa. On promotion to DIGP, he was posted as DIGP, Northern Range, Sambalpur, Central Range, Cuttack and Western Range, Rourkela. On promotion to the rank of IGP, he was posted as IGP, Western Range, Rourkela, Fire Service & Home Guards and IGP (Finance), Orissa, Director, State Police Academy, Bhubaneswar. On elevation to the rank of ADGP, he functioned as CMD of Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation, posted as ADGP, Headquarters,ADGP, Law & Order and ADGP (Provisioning) at State Police Headquarters.
He took charge as the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack on 3rd August, 2018. On being elevated to the rank of DGP, he is currently posted as DGP, Intelligence, Odisha.
He has done post graduation degree in Science and LL.B from Utkal University, Master of Human Rights from Pondicherry University and Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy & Management from IIM, Bangalore & Maxwell School of Public Policy, Syracuse University, NY, USA. He has been awarded Ph.D. in Law by National Law University Odisha.
He has authored five Books:'Police in India: Role Responsibility & Accountability','Human Behavior and Police Ethics', 'Human Rights' & 'Criminology'.His latest book, 'Community Policing as a Public Policy' has just been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK. He is a guest resource person of National Police Academy, Hyderabad, Gopabandhu Academy of Administration, Bhubaneswar and Odisha Judicial Academy, Cuttack, National Law University, Cuttack, National Law School of India University,Bangalore.
He has been nominated as the Executive Committee Member of National Police Mission of Govt. of India, researching in the field of community poliicng.
Mohanty during his service career has received many commendations & rewards. Notable among them is the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2004, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished service in the year 2012 and Antarik Surakhya Seva Medal in the year 2016.
Mohanty takes keen interest on sports and games. He plays Tennis and likes to go on long cycle rides. Presently he is functioning as the Vice-President of Odisha Tennis Associationi and Honorary Secretary of Cuttack District Tennis Association. Playing guitar & reading books are his hobbies.
